The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC) has disengaged 30% of its workforce, a source in the company disclosed to Daily Trust, yesterday.

However, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, who confirmed this to our reporter, yesterday, said the workforce downsizing was part of the privatisation process of the PHCN successor companies.

He said disengaged workers have been paid all their genuine entitlements by the federal government, adding that “it is now left to the new investors to call the staff back if they require their services.”

The retrenchment exercise which was conducted by the management of KEDC and Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) was as a result of the ongoing privatisation of the nation’s power sector.
