Kenya jails British terror suspect

British national Jermaine Grant was charged with nine counts of forgery and sentenced to nine years in jail on Wednesday.

Grant faced charges including making a false statement for the registration of birth, three counts of procuring a document by false pretences and one of attempting to falsely procure registration.

Justice Martin Muya said the terror suspect will serve the sentence at Shimo la Tewa Maximum Security Prison in Mombasa county.

On Tuesday, Muya quashed Shanzu magistrate Anastasia Ndung’u’s acquittal of Grant saying the law provides for the substitution of an acquittal for a conviction. Ndung’u acquitted Grant of nine charges on January 28 for lack of evidence but the state appealed. The accused is facing terror charges in another case.  Read more
