Voters in Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in Kogi have shunned the ongoing verification exercise organised by INEC to authenticate the signatures of voters seeking to recall Sen. Dino Melaye (APC/Kogi West). Correspondents of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), monitoring the exercise in Mr Melaye’s Kogi West Senatorial District, observed that the polling units were empty, with many people claiming that they were not aware of it. At some areas, youth protested against the move to recall the senator who they described as “an excellent representative”. An NYSC member, Opemipo Solomon, the INEC officer at Akafe Lane polling unit, said that no one had showed up since they arrived the voting venue at 6.45 a.m. Read more

Ikoyi to experience 5-hour outage Sunday (Guardian)

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a five-hour outage in Ikoyi and environs from 10.00am to 3.00pm on Sunday. Mr Godwin Idemudia, the EKEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications, said in a statement on Saturday that the outage would enable the company to carry out maintenance work. According to the general manager, the maintenance work will be carried out on the company’s 33KVA Bus Section 11 at the Fowler Injection Substation. Read more

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as uncharitable and and down right malicious, reports that governors of the party were contributing about N6 billion of state resources for the party’s forth coming national convention. Melaye’s recall: Low turnout for signatures verification (Tribune)

The verification exercise as part of processes for the recall of Sen Dino Melaye representing Kogi West Senatorial District began peacefully on Saturday, but with low turnout. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who monitored the exercise, which started at 8.00 a.m. in the two local governments reports that less than 20 per cent of petitioners had come out as at mid-day.
