Lagos APC Primaries: State Chairman Disagrees With NWC, Says Votes Valid
The chairman of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Tunde Balogun, says the party’s governorship primary held earlier on Tuesday (today) remains valid and that the result will soon be announced. This was minutes after the party’s National Working Committee panel, led by Mr. Clement Ebri, declared the primary null and void. Ebri at a press conference at Protea Hotel, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, said the primary could not have held because the guidelines for the conduct of the election were still being ironed out.
APC NWC Election Panel Nullifies Lagos Governorship Primaries
The APC National Working Committee (NWC) panel on Tuesday cancelled the exercise that took place earlier in the day in the Lagos governorship primary election, saying the preparatory process for the election had just been concluded. Group Tells FG: Halt Political Activities Until Leah Sharibu Is Rescued
A Christian Civil Society Organisation (CCSO), Catalyst for Global Peace and Social Justice Initiative (CGPSJI), has suggested that Federal Government halt all political activities ahead of 2019 general elections and focus its energy to rescue abducted Dapchi schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu. The group which mobilizes Christians for social engagement, justice and good governance advocacy, claimed the government has not done enough to rescue the girl hence the suggestion to halt all political activities until the girl is back.
Tinubu, NWC May Face-Off over Lagos APC Primary
There are strong indications that there might be a squabble between the national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu and the National Working Committee of the party over its governorship primary election in Lagos State. The party after postponing the state’s primary two times scheduled it to hold on Tuesday. However, after thousands of APC members including Tinubu and the state deputy governor, Idiat Adebule, cast their votes and results were been announced in various wards in the state, NWC announced the election was null and void.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions ( NASU ), has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately ensure the stoppage of this blood-lettings and carnage in parts of the country, especially the recent killings in Jos, Plateau state. Rising from its National Executive Council meeting, the Union said while the achievement recorded by the government in tackling the Boko Haram issue is commendable, the high incidence of the killer Herdsmen menace, kidnapping, armed robbery and resurgence of Boko Haram activities in recent times is worrisome.
Duke, Gana, 3 Others Eye SDP Presidential Ticket
Five presidential aspirants of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are to participate in the party’s presidential primary slated for Abuja on October 6. The aspirants include former governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke; former Information Minister, Prof. Jerry Gana; Mr John Dara; Prof. Hagher Iyouwese and Ambassador Felix Osakwe. The chairman of the party’s Special Convention Sub-committee on Publicity, Prof. Rufus Alkali, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, said SDP will hold its special convention on Saturday, October 6 at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
EFCC opposes contempt charge against Lai Mohammed
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to dismiss a motion filed by a former Minister of State for Finance, Nenadi Usman, seeking to commit the Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to prison for alleged contempt. Usman is standing trial alongside former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani -Kayode, a former Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Yusuf Danjuma, and a company, Joint trust Dimension Ltd, over money laundering charges.
Osinbajo Lauds Ugwuanyi On Entrepreneurship Programmes
Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his administration’s unceasing cooperation with the federal government in the advancement of the set objectives of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the state and beyond. Prof Osinbajo, who said he was “extremely delighted” with the “kindness and warm reception” the state government always accords him whenever he visits Enugu State, also applauded Gov. Buhari Assures South Sudan Of Nigeria’s Support
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured South Sudan that Nigeria is prepared to help stabilize that country both politically and economically. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement, said Buhari gave the assurance when he received in audience Mr Ezekiel Gatkuoth, Special Envoy of the South Sudan at the presidential villa, Abuja.
‘Non-Passage of Money Laundering Bill Won’t Affect Fight against Financial Crimes’
The delay by the National Assembly to pass the proposed amendment to Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act will not affect ongoing efforts by the Federal Government against money laundering and related crimes in the country. The Director, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Francis Usani gave this assurance in Abuja on Tuesday while speaking at the the ongoing pre-assessment training workshop for Nigeria, organised by the Inter-Government Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA). Usani, who said he could not say the current stage the National Assembly has got in its works on the amendment Bill, disclosed that the Executive has made its necessary contributions.
Kano PDP Rejects Governorship Primary Election
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State has rejected the governorship primary election conducted on Monday by the Electoral Committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). The State Chairman of the party, Sen. Mas’ud Doguwa, declared the stand of the party while addressing newsmen in Kano on Tuesday. Doguwa described the election that was conducted by committee headed by Ezeogu Emeka-Onuaha as null and void. He explained that they had been in the PDP for quite some time and were conversant with the technicalities involved in conducting primary elections.
NNPC Leverages Strong Oil Prices to Earn N63.73bn Profit in 4 Months
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) leveraged the continuing healthy rise in crude oil prices to earn profits worth N63.73 billion from its operations in the industry between February and May of 2018, its financial and operations reports for the four months have disclosed. The reports, which are parts of the five trading reports the corporation has released so far in 2018, indicated it started closing its monthly trade with surpluses in February, and continued even into May – the last month of the report.
‘Allow Children to Start Football from 5 Years’
Chinedu Ezirim, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Yagazie Foundation, an NGO, has appealed to parents to allow their children to start football from the age of five. Ezirim, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos, said that if children were allowed to start football early, they would get it right. “Most of our players start at very late age but with early preparation, I think we will get it right,’’ he said. The sports administrator told NAN that the Yagazie Foundation was established on Jan. 1, this year to help the youth and coaches to fight poverty and eradicate juvenile delinquency.
