Lagos pays N32.2b to 6,145 retirees
Lagos State Government said it has paid over N32.2 billion into the Retirement Savings Accounts (RSA) of 6,145 workers who retired from the state public service between 2010 and now and issued N8 billion as Retirement Bond Certificate.
State Commissioner for Establishment, Training and Pensions, Mrs. Florence Oguntuase who disclosed this in a ministerial press conference held at the weekend in Lagos said the move was to ensure that retirees get their entitlement as and when due. Read more
ASUU demands re-opening of LASU
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Lagos State University (LASU) chapter has demanded for an immediate re-opening of the institution for academic activities.
The union at a media briefing, fault the closure of the university by the management and made a passionate appeal to the Governing Council to direct the reopening of LASU. Read more

Uduaghan commissions 447m bridge in Effurun
Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has commissioned the four hundred and forty seven metres flyover bridge in Effurun, Uwvie local government area, stating that the bridge would ease traffic congestion at the Effurun roundabout and improve the aesthetics of the city.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony at the weekend, the Governor disclosed that the bridge which was the second to be commissioned in the state within the last one week was part of the state government’s urban renewal programmes aimed at improving traffic flow and the environmental beauty of the major towns in the state. Okowa condemns political violence, mobilises for Amori
Delta State Governor-Elect, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has condemned the acts of violence in some parts of the state particularly Uvwie Lcoal Government Area which affected the chances of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections.

Nigeria’s Dangote Sugar says 2014 pretax profit falls 6 pct
Nigeria’s Dangote Sugar Refinery said on Monday its full-year pretax profit fell 6 percent year-on-year to 15.27 billion naira ($77 million).
Turnover at the sugar refiner also declined to 94.85 billion naira compared with 103.15 billion naira the previous year, the company said in a statement without giving reasons for the decline in earnings. Read more

Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists in a bid to check incessant cult related crimes in the state especially Agbarho town.

Police Arrest Fake Army Officer
The Enugu State Police Command, through its Nsukka command, has arrested a fake army officer and members of his gang who have been terrorising, intimidating and raping young girls at Amaja community in Igbo-Eze North local government area, Enugu State for a long time.
It was gathered that detectives from the Nsukka Command arrested the fake army officer, identified simply as Felix James, while he was walking freely in the community pretending to be a genuine military officer. Read more
Kidnapping: Police Rescue 37-year-old Housewife
Police detectives in Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend rescued a 37-year-old housewife from captivity after she had spent two days in kidnappers’ den.
It was gathered that the criminals stormed the residence of the victim and, after shooting sporadically, took the housewife to an unknown destination. Read more
Girl Tortured, Poisoned Over Refusal to Join Fraternity
Suspected members of a notorious female cult group in the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University(NDU) in Ammassoma community of Southern Ijaw Area of the State weekend attacked a 17-year-old student after she declined their offer of membership.
The suspected cult members, who were reportedly led by one Annabela, a final year student of the Education Department of the institution, allegedly attacked their victim at Hostel “F” of the institution and injected her with a strange substance after subjecting her to severe torture. Read more

We’ll work with Keshi, says NFF boss
President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has maintained they will work with Stephen Keshi and that no one is forcing the coach on the federation.
Pinnick’s clarification follows media reports that the NFF are stalling on a new deal for Keshi until a new Federal Government led by President-elect Muhammadu Buhari has come into office on May 29 after Friday’s public presentation did not happen and there was no official explanation to that effect. Vehicle Bomb Blast at UN Base in Somalia
“There was a heavy explosion at the UN compound,” said security official Ahmed Duale.
There were conflicting reports as to whether it was suicide car bomb, or if the bomb had been attached to a UN bus transporting staff. Read more
Adidas eyes marine waste for green push
German sportswear firm Adidas is teaming up with a group trying to clean up the world’s oceans with a plan to develop materials made from marine plastic waste that can be used in its products.
As the result of its partnership with the Parley for the Oceans initiative, Adidas also said on Monday it would phase out the use of plastic bags at its 2 900 stores. Read more
China to invest $46bn in building economic corridor to Pakistan
China is set to announce a $46bn (£30.8bn, €42.6bn) investment to build a network of roads, railway and pipelines between the world’s second largest economy and its neighbour Pakistan.
China’s President Xi Jinping, who has arrived in Pakistan on his first visit to the country, is expected to announce the scheme, named China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The 3,000-kilometre project will connect Gwadar in Pakistan to China’s western Xinjiang region. Read more
