The first Lagos International Poetry Festival is off to a grand start as it kicked off on Wednesday, October 28 at Freedom Park, Lagos.
Speaking at the opening cocktails Efe Paul Azino, the festival convener said the festival was born from the realisation that there is a resurgence and awareness of poetry – both spoken and written – as an art form.
With the theme Borderless Words, the five-day festival will have Masterclasses, concerts, panel discussions and more. Thirty top poets from within and outside the country are in Lagos for the festival.
Present at the opening event was veteran poet Prof. J P Clark, writer and poet Chuma Nwokolo, Jahman Anikulakpo, Wana Udobang, Sage Hassan, Toni Kan, Eghosa Imaseun, among others.
Music was provided by Jazz artist Femi Leye and his band.
Lagos International Poetry Festival is sponsored by Nigerian Breweries.
