There were shocking revelations at the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, when one of the star witnesses from the military testified that election did not hold in the state on April 11 during governorship poll.
The military personnel who represented the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on subpoena, admitted that violence by political thugs marred the electioneering process and that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were rescued by military operatives on several violent occasions.
However, Governor Nyesom Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and INEC had earlier objected to the appearance of the military since they are not the ones that conducted the elections but the tribunal Chairman, Justice Suleman Ambrosa overruled them.
Captain Garba Sani who led the deployment of the security forces to maintain law and order in the state, while testifying on behalf of the military at the resumed hearing of a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, told the Justice Ambrosa-led tribunal how his team encountered thugs in virtually everywhere they visited. Read more
