In what appears to be a reconciliatory move to mend their frosty relationship, former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday paid a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his country home in Ibogun-Olaogun village, Ifo local government area of Ogun State.

Jonathan, who arrived the village in company of former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki and other close aides at 11.58 a.m, quickly went into a closed door meeting with Obasanjo, which lasted for almost two hours. Read more

Kidnapping: Parents, school owners demand emergency meeting with Buhari

As a result of the recent kidnapping of three female pupils and five staff members, including a Turkish national, by unknown gunmen in the Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (formerly known as Turkish International School), last Friday, parents and school owners are seeking emergency meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari over the increasing state of insecurity in the nation’s schools.

Parents and teachers who spoke through the National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools among others, said an urgent meeting was necessary to stem the tide of an evil wind blowing in schools across the country to prevent it from becoming epidemic. Governors Forum: Fayose, Right Man for the Job, Says Ekweremadu

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has congratulated the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, on his emergence as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum.

Ekweremadu, who described the Forum as an important group within the party, expressed confidence in the ability of Fayose to rally the governors elected on the platform of the party, theming PDP faithful, and supporters to hold the fort in opposition. Read more

Senate, SERAP, Magu and the Dearth/Death of CSO’s in Nigeria 

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, recently wrote a letter to Mr Michel Forst, the UN Rapporteur on situation of human rights defenders on Senate’s refusal to confirm Mr Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, claiming political and other concocted reasons for the said refusal.

Senate’s Unkind Cut Against Babachir

Day after day, it is becoming very obvious that the Senate Committee’s report, which purportedly indicted the Secretary to tzhe Government of the Federation, David Babachir, over so-called corruption, was cunningly but poorly crafted by ‘’political enemies’’ to deliberately open holes in the SGF’s character.

Pensioners Hopeful as FG’s Verification Exercise Ends  in Bayelsa

Aviation unions to picket Arik over staff welfare

The National Union of Air Transport Employees, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers have threatened to shut down Arik Air’s operations for failing to implement the agreement reached with them in December concerning some members of staff of the carrier who were sacked.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has issued an invitation for bids under the model of direct sale of crude oil and direct purchase of petroleum products (DSDP).

Under this DSDP scheme, foreign refiners receive Nigerian crude oil supplies in exchange for the delivery of an equal value of refined oil products to NNPC. Read more

Nigeria’s crude oil output increases by 403,900bpd

Nigeria’s crude oil output increased by about 403,900 barrels per day (bpd) to 1.940 million bpd in December 2016, above November levels of 1.536 million bpd, according to the current figures released by Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Compared to third quarter 2016, 1.2 million bpd output, the boost in production is attributed to Federal Government’s overtures to militant groups in the oil-rich Niger Delta region, to pave the way for a comprehensive dialogue with a view to resolving all the issues. Read more

NFF inspectors score Enugu Stadium low

University of Hawaii researcher is suing the school and her employers after losing her arm in a lab explosion

A postdoctoral fellow has lost her right arm in a University of Hawaii laboratory explosion and sued the school and researchers she worked for.

The explosion occurred last March in a Hawaii Natural Energy Institute lab on the university’s Manoa campus.  In the explosion, Thea Ekins-Coward lost her right arm above her elbow. She suffered facial burns, abrasions to her cornea and nerve damage to her ears that led to high frequency hearing loss.  Read more
FBI employee gets jail time for acting as Chinese agent

A FORMER FBI employee in New York was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday after admitting that he illegally acted at the direction of a Chinese official to gather sensitive information.

Kun Shan Chun, also known as Joey Chun, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero in Manhattan to pay $10,000 after pleading guilty in August to having illegally acted as an agent of a foreign government. Read more

Rottweiler kills baby in France after biting its head

A family Rottweiler attacked and killed a 14-month-old baby in northern France.

Police say the dog, in the family’s courtyard in their Saint-Aubin home in Aisne, jumped on the baby girl and bit her in the head on Thursday morning. Read more

Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

After formally taking office, Trump said: “Together we will determine the course of America and the world for many, many years to come.”
