A 7-year-old girl in New Delhi was brutally raped with a water hose, and left bleeding with a towel around her waist, near her home. The mother said her daughter was weak and almost motionless when she was found.
The 26-year-old mother said about her daughter, “She was holding her stomach and she was bleeding. When I saw her blood, there was no strength left in my body.”
The name of the mother and the victim are being withheld because rape victims and their families cannot be identified under Indian law.
A 21-year-old has been arrested in connection with the rape, which occurred in the district of Shahdara in the North-Eastern part of the city. He was picked out in a crowd of men gathered not far away by the girl was in extreme pain after the attack.
The girl’s mother described the attacker as a rag picker who rummages through refuse in the streets. In her opinion, she believes the rapist should get the maximum sentence. She said, “He should be hanged. Life imprisonment is too small a punishment. It is nothing compared to what he has done.”
