Navy begins Operation Octopusgrip (Punch)

The Nigerian Navy on Thursday inaugurated riverine and sea operations, codenamed Octopusgrip, in its Central Naval Command’s coverage area.

The Navy also said the command between May and September 2017 seized and destroyed about 870,000 metric tonnes of illegally refined crude oil, and destroyed over 400 illegal refineries.  It also destroyed 85 boats used by suspected oil thieves and illegal bunkerers.

The CNC, with its headquarters in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, stretches from the Benin River to the Santa Barbara River entrance, encompassing the coastal states of Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and the landward states, including Kogi. Read more
