Nigeria’s wrestlers to the just concluded African Championships in Cairo, Egypt, hauled in a total of 8 medals in a truly encouraging performance in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman styles.
In the Freestyle, the female duo of Blessing Oborodudu (63kg) and Odunayo Adekuoroye (53kg), a 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, won gold medals, with Oborodudu winning her fifth straight African title. Silver medals were won by Aminat Adeniyi (58kg) and Amas Daniel (86kg), whilst Saso tamara (86kg) and Ebikewenimi Welson (57kg) won bronze medals.
In the Greco-Roman style, Emmanuel Nwori (75kg) and Ituru Oke (66kg) won bronze medals in their class.
An elated Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) President, Hon. Daniel Igali, who announced these results, affirmed that Nigerian wrestlers have been showing improvement in their training and confidence. Read more
