“I just want to thank God for giving me this great opportunity to represent my country. I came 2nd in the Mr. World 2014 contest…” read the celebratory tweet from Emmanuel Ikubese who represented Nigeria at the Mr. World contest on Sunday.
While Brazil caught the attention of Nigerians focused on the national pastime of football, the model and actor flew the country’s colours at the Riviera International Conference Centre in the UK, coming in second place behind Danish carpenter, Nicklas Pedersen. Mexico’s Jose Pablo Minor came in third place. Like Ikubese, the Mexican Minor is an actor.
Contestants had to pass through several rounds including Sports Challenge, Talent Award, Fashion & Style, Multi-Media and Extreme Challenge.
Mr. Ikubese came into the nation’s consciousness when he starred in the MTV Base series Shuga.
