Herdsmen free to graze anywhere in Nigeria – Prof. Umar (SUN)

Talking of governance and good leadership, what is your assessment of the Buhari administration? Where is it that he is strong? Where is he weak?

I think that the Buhari administration came at a very, very critical time. It came after 16 years of systematic looting and destruction of this country, not only in the economic, but in the social aspects. Nigeria politics and its economy need to be reformed and this is not a small task to undertake. Number two, there are vested interests, who are massively opposed to Buhari and everybody knows this. These are the members of the former ruling party – the People’s Democratic Party, the club of powerful retired Generals and some business moguls who exploit this country; Read more

Continuity has never been the watchword as far as Nigeria’s football is concerned. He set three records at the tournament – he became France’s youngest goalscorer at the World Cup when he scored his first goal in the 1-0 win over Peru in the group stage. He also became the first teenager since Pele in 1958 to score multiple times in the same World Cup game and he also became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final after Pele, when he scored France’s fourth goal in their 4-2 win over Croatia in Moscow. Fleetwood’s card was bogey free, and he took just 26 putts on his way to the top of the morning leaderboard. Read more
