The 28-year-old, known as the ‘Blade Runner’, is to be released from Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria, South Africa, on Friday, August 21 after serving a sixth of his sentence – the minimum allowed – due to good behaviour.
At his June parole hearing the South African correction services’ national commissioner, Zach Modise, said: “He’s behaving very well.”
In February a prison guard revealed Pistorius was being treated like ‘royalty’ after his management raised concerns over his safety.
He said prison guards were doing everything they could to ensure Pistorius did not come to harm in jail over fears of a public backlash.
The world was gripped by Pistorius’s trial last year as the double-amputee – who became the first ever athlete to compete in both the Paralympics and Olympics at London 2012 – sat in the dock accused of brutally shooting his beautiful girlfriend four times through his locked bathroom door on Valentine’s Day, 2013.
