Osun Rerun holds Amid complaints of Voters/Observers intimidation

The rerun election in Osun state is on amid reports of voter intimidation and intimidation of observers in some polling areas.

Sahara Reporters have noted some concerns in certain polling areas with more reports of similar situations in other locations involving intimidation of PDP party agents and observers.

The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC acknowledged these reports in a tweet, saying; ‘INEC is disturbed about reports that accredited media and observers are being arrested or prevented from operating in some polling units. This is being taken up by the security agencies’

Some reactions to these reports can be seen in replies made to the tweet by INEC on twitter. They make for a mirror into the feelings of some who believe the happenings on the ground in Osun state are antithetical to the democratic process which it should uphold.

Similar observations denounce the ‘seeming’ partisan nature of proceedings by the independent body from some with complaints about thugs chasing away the oppositions agents.

‘This is not a free & fair election! The ruling party @APCNigeria is doing anything in there power to make sure they win this election! This is not democracy…@inecnigeria stop this the world is watching,’ says Adeleke Adewale, Chairman of HKN, as his handle reveal.

INEC has since its acknowledgment moved to arrest reported unrest in polling areas as it said in its tweet.

More to come as events unfold.
