Controversy has trailed the career of Kristina Pimenova, youngest supermodel in the world at nine, and reportedly ‘the most beautiful girl in the world.’
Kristina started modeling at age 3 and has worked with brands such as Armani, Roberto Cavalli and Benetton. She has a Facebook page with over 2 million followers and an instagram account which her mother administers and posts pictures from Kristina’s daily life and photo shoots.
With Kristina’s exposure to social media, her mother Glikeriya Shirokova has faced backlash from a public that feels she’s setting up her daughter for pedophiles and sexualising her too much. Others have accused her of living through her daughter as her own modeling career isn’t successful. Speaking to MailOnline Glikeriya said, “You must think like a pedophile in order to see something sexual in these pictures, so it is time for you to see a doctor.” She insists Kristina’s photographs are perfectly innocent and she models only children’s clothes. She also denies being a model saying, “’I have nothing to do with the model business, I am not tall enough for it and I was always honest with myself about my chances, although I did receive offers when I was young.” Shirkova said she decided to introduce her daughter to modeling when she noticed how much attention she got from people on the streets of Paris as a toddler.
Outside modeling, Kristina attends a rhythmic gymnastics sports school and has never taken part in beauty contests. She also doesn’t have access to the internet.
What’s your take? If you were the parent of the most beautiful girl in the world, what would you do different?
