The much awaited partial solar eclipse of the sun also known as the annular eclipse finally occurred on Thursday September 1, 2016 as predicted. The eclipse was captured in Lagos at about 8.35 am though it was expected to have been seen in the city as at 7:14 am with a peak at 8:26 am.
Daylight was slightly dimmed, as on a very cloudy day. The phenomenon, known as an annular solar eclipse, happens when there is a near-perfect alignment of the Earth, Moon and Sun. But unlike a total eclipse, when the Sun is blacked out, sometimes the Moon is too far from Earth, and its apparent diameter too small, for complete coverage. Read more
