PDP urges Ambode to govern with fear of God

The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday urged Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, the new governor of the state to govern the state with the fear of God.

Ambode, in his inaugural speech after being sworn in as the 14th governor of Lagos State, had pledged to make the state a better place to live in.

The PDP, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Taofik Gani, said that governing with the fear of God would move the state out of the “make-belief” situation. Read more

Okorocha woos investors with $2m, free land

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has promised interested industrialists and investors an assistance of $2m and plots of land to any investor, who will invest in the state.

He stated this on Friday at the Imo International Convention Centre, during a dinner to mark his second term inauguration in office.  Read more

Nduka Ugbade, the Assistant Coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles on Saturday says his team is `battle-ready’ to conquer Brazil in their opening match of the ongoing World Cup in New Zealand.

Msgr. Francis Ogunmodede, Episcopal Vicar/Dean, Lekki Region of the Catholic Arch. Diocese of Lagos has advised President Mohammadu Buhari to choose the right people into his cabinet to reduce corruption.

Police detain gay activists at rally

Russian police on Saturday detained several gay rights activists for attempting to stage an unauthorised pride rally in central Moscow, AFP journalists reported.

Police officers seized the activists — one of whom tried to unfurl a rainbow flag — and loaded them into waiting vans as around 30 nationalist counter-demonstrators in camouflage hurled eggs at the activists and attacked them. Read more

Wanted Nyako returns home today

Former Governor of Adamawa State, Admiral Murtal Nyako(retd.), is returning to Nigeria today, Saturday. Nyako, who is coming from London via Lufthansa Airline flight, is expected to land in Abuja this evening.

Zimbabwe bans arrest of sex workers

Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court has outlawed the arrest of women on charges of soliciting for sex in the absence of confirmation from men that they were offered the services for a fee, local media reported Saturday. The court made the ruling Wednesday in an application by nine women who were contesting their arrest.

The women were arrested in Harare in March 2014 during an operation by police code-named “No to Robberies and Prostitution.” The court declared the arrest and prosecution unconstitutional.  Read more

Nigeria army repels Boko Haram as new president starts term

Nigeria’s military on Saturday repelled a Boko Haram attack on the key northeastern city of Maiduguri, a day after President Muhammadu Buhari took office vowing to crush the group, witnesses and security sources said.

At least 21 killed in Pakistan as gunmen storm buses: officials

Unidentified gunmen stormed two passenger coaches in southwest Pakistan and killed at least 21 people, officials said on Saturday.

No Room For Selfish Ambition In Delta – Okowa
