PIB should be broken up for easier passage – Alison-Madueke

Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Friday said Nigeria should break up its long-awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to speed its passage through parliament.

 

The PIB aims to reform oil taxes and licences and overhaul the structure of the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

It has been more than five years in the making and has not passed because of political wrangling over its many clauses. Oil majors are also unhappy about proposed fiscal terms.
