One unidentified official of the Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been killed by a policeman in Calabar.
Our correspondent gathered on Thursday that the incident happened after the slain civil defence official stepped out of an NSCDC van to talk to some policemen, who had mounted a checkpoint close to the NSCDC’s state command headquarters’ gate.
An eyewitness, Stephen Joseph, said the policemen mounted the checkpoint at about 8pm on Wednesday when the incident occurred.
Joseph said, “One of the policemen drew his gun and shot at the NSCDC officials. One of them, a sergeant, died on the spot, while another NSCDC officer, was injured.” Read more
