R&B stars Trey Songz and Miguel will grace the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards ceremony (popularly known as MAMA) to be held 7 June at the Durban International Convention Centre, South Africa.
Both artistes will be joining Nigerian stars Davido, Flavour and Tiwa Savage. South African artists Mafikizolo and Uhuru, who collaborated on the hit song Khona will also be performing at the ceremony.
Speaking about his forthcoming appearance at the awards ceremony, Trey Songz said, “I’m excited to finally be going back to Durban. I went once just for a day but this time I’m spending more time to get to know the people and the culture. I can’t wait to perform at the awards show, especially since it’s live for the first time ever. It’s going to be amazing to feel the energy when I’m on that stage and see some of the best talent that Africa has to offer.”
Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, expressed his delight, saying, “We are thrilled that Trey Songz will be joining the stellar line-up in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal on 7 June, and contributing his own signature R&B style to the wide range of music genres represented at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.”
Other artistes officially announced to be performing at the event include Diamond, Wizkid, American rapper French Montana, Phyno, Yuri da Cunha and the South African DJ Oskido.
The event will be broadcast on MTV, MTV Base, BET International and affiliate stations. Comic and actor Marlon Wayans will be hosting the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards. The ceremony is supported by Absolut and the City of Durban, with South Africa Tourism as partner.
This year’s ceremony will, for the first time ever, premiere live across Africa on MTV Base.
