Residents flee Ikorodu, as tension mounts

Many residents of some communities in Ikorodu, Lagos State, continue to flee their homes for fear of attacks as tension mounts in the area, checks by Daily Trust have shown. There is a growing apprehension despite repeated assurances by security agencies that the rampaging militants had been chased away.
At Igando and Ishawo, fresh shootings have raised concerns. The hoodlums, it was learnt, stormed both communities in the wee hours of Saturday, unleashing terror on the residents. And on Sunday, a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) was kidnapped in Ishawo and his whereabouts yet to be known at press time through the police spokesman Dolapo Badmus confirmed it was under investigation.
At Igando, the militants were said to have attempted to abduct a wealthy man who managed to escape.
Witness account revealed that the militants shot at anyone they saw, wounding at least six persons, including a police inspector.

It was gathered that the community sent a distress call to the policemen who later stormed the place and engaged the militants in a gun battle that lasted about two hours. A police source alleged that when the militants exhausted their bullets, they escaped through Totowu Waterways, Ogun State and abandoned some of the guns.
