NLC condemns sack of labour leaders by Amosun

The Nigeria Labour Congress Lagos State Council on Wednesday condemned the dismissal of Ogun State chairman of NLC and 15 others by the state government.

The Lagos State Council Chairman of NLC, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, said that  the dismissal of the labour leaders is contrary to the rule of law. Read more

2016 Budget Performance: FG Has So Far Released N3.6trillion

The Federal government has so far spent N3.577 trillion out of the full year budget of N6,060 trillion for the 2016 fiscal year.
This translates to a 79% performance of the prorated budget for the three quarters up to September 30, 2016. In addition to the total of N2,439.9trn so far released for Capital, Non-debt Recurrent and Service-wide Vote expenditures, a total of N1,137.7trn has also been paid out in domestic and foreign debt service expenditures. This includes N44bn transferred to the Sinking Fund to retire maturing obligations on bonds issued to contractors. Read more

NPF faults media reports on police postings

The Nigeria Police Force has said that a report in the media caption ‘Protest greets police postings” was malicious and misleading.

The NPF Spokesman, Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Don Awunah, on Tuesday said that the report was entirely false, malicious and cable of misleading the members of the public. Read more

Man arrested for raping, impregnating 15-year-old stepdaughter

A 40-year-old man, Victor Emafolomi, has been detained by the police for allegedly raping his wife’s daughter, Keji.

Nigeria’s procurement process over-legislated, says Fashola

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has decried what he called the over legislation of procurement process and called for a review to enhance speedy development of infrastructure in the country.

Boko Haram survivors sexually abused by government officials at ‘safe’ camps

Women and girls who survived Boko Haram violence were raped by government officials at camps in northern Nigeria where they sought safety, according to a new rights group report.

Dozens of victims who stayed at camps for the displaced in Borno State’s capital Maiduguri told Human Rights Watch they were sexually abused or coerced into sex by camp leaders, vigilante group members, policemen and soldiers. Many of the women were abandoned after becoming pregnant. Read more

Maersk profit falls on low shipping prices

Danish conglomerate A.P. Moller-Maersk said Wednesday that its third quarter profit tumbled 44 percent to $429 million (387 million euros) as low fees pushed its world-leading shipping service into loss.
