Troops avert suicide attack on Maiduguri
Troops of Operation LAFIA DOLE Friday intercepted a suicide bomber attempting to enter Maiduguri and unleash havoc in an unidentified location.
According a statement issued by the Army Spokesman Col. Sani Usman, the male suicide bomber came in from Alidawari Village from the Polo general area about 4km on the outskirts of Maiduguri but was sighted and gunned down by some eagle eyed security operatives after he resisted attempts to be stopped and checked by vigilante. The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside has expressed the Agency’s determination to strengthen its Zonal operations to become the centre of the Agency’s activities.
By so doing the Agency plans to devolve more power to the Zonal offices, grant them more autonomy and authority to handle the Agency’s statutory mandate without recourse to the head office. Read more

NECA flays sanctions on quoted companies by SEC
The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has faulted the sanctioning of some public quoted companies by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for failing to file in their fourth quarter (Q4) interim unaudited results.
The group, in a petition to the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, signed by the Director- General, NECA, Olusegun Oshinowo, described the decision as unlawful, noting that the alleged default was based on the regulations and practice in the capital market. Read more

NSDC Targets 1.79million Metric Tonnes of Sugar by 2023
The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) yesterday disclosed that Nigeria is set to meet 1.79 metric tonnes of sugar, 161.2m litres of ethanol by 2023.
NSDC also hinted that it is planning to generate about 411MW of electricity and create about 117,000 jobs after the end of its 10-year plan the Nigerian Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) by 2023. Read more

Government seeks for ANAN’s support in corruption fight
The Federal Government has solicited the support of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and its affiliated professionals in the fight against corruption in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who made the call in Abuja, at the 21st yearly conference of ANAN, however said the ongoing fight against corruption is not about retribution and meting out punishment, the association said in a statement. Read more

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), has introduced zero interest rates on all its concessional facilities to low income countries until 2018.
