Breaking News! Ebonyi Speaker Impeached
18 out of 24 members of Ebonyi state House of Assembly on Monday impeached the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku admist tight security .
Nwanzunku was impeached following a motion moved by Hon Chris Usulor, representing Ezza South constituency and second by the Minority Leader, Hon. Enyi C. Enyi (Ezza North West).
He was replaced with Mrs Helen Nwobashi as the new Speaker. The motion for her election as the new Speaker was moved by Hon. Eni Uduma Chima (Afikpo South West) and seconded by Hon. Frank Onwe (Ohaukwu North). Read more
Nasarawa Impeachment Saga: Dep Gov, 21 Lawmakers Relocate to Abuja
Worried about their safety and the determination to ensure that they do not back down on the impeachment plot against the Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura, by the state House of Assembly, THISDAY gathered that some presidency and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials have facilitated the relocation of the state deputy governor, Damishi Luka Barau, the Speaker and 20 members of the Assembly to a private home in Abuja.
Apart from hinging the relocation on ‘deft moves not to leave things to chances’, it was also learnt that the movement of the state’s government officials to Abuja might not be unconnected with the increasing tension and violence of anti-impeachment protests for three days in Lafia last week, which claimed some lives. Kerry to push for cease-fire as Gaza death toll spikes
Gaza City (CNN) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is due to arrive in Egypt on Monday to push for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas after the death toll from the
Gaza conflict rose above 500.
Speaking to CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday, the deadliest day of the war so far, Kerry said that the United States supports Egypt’s initiative for a truce and “will work for a fair cease-fire.”
The United States has “shown our willingness to try to deal with the underlying issues,”
but Hamas “must step up and show a level of reasonableness,” he said. Read more
Should Malaysia jet have flown over Ukraine?
(CNN) — Why was Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 flying over war-torn eastern Ukraine?
“We, along with hundreds of other airlines, have flown that route safely for quite some time,” Hugh Dunleavy, commercial director for Malaysia Airlines, told CNN’s Saima Mohsin over the weekend. “Primarily we flew that route because we were advised that this was a safe corridor and there would be no incidents.”
Dunleavy said the plane, which was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, adjusted its altitude on its way across Europe under the direction of air traffic control. Read more
