A Chief Imam known for his efforts at bringing peace to troubled areas in Plateau State has been murdered by unknown gunmen who shot him at his residence in the Bachi Rea of Riyom local government area of the state.
The Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar was said to be observing his evening prayers when the gunmen attacked him and fired several shots into his body and he gave up the ghost instantly.
The deceased, according to sources, was popularly known for mobilizing attendance at peace meetings between the Beroms and Fulani in Riyom and other parts of the state with a way to finding a lasting solution to the unending crisis that has been bedeviling the state in the past few years.
The Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Nigeria (MACBAN), Riyom branch, Alhaji Mato Ibrahim who confirmed the incident, said that the late Abubakar was an astute bridge-builder and respected community leader.
Major Adam Umar, the Media and Information Officer of the Operation Safe Haven, also confirmed the sad incident, saying it was reported to the military authorities by the MACBAN chairman in Riyom.
