A close source who is a top member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has narrated how Senate President Bukola Saraki played a fast one on the party by defecting in the nick of time as plans were in top gear to expel him.
The source who did not want his name mention told The Cable that the Senate President announced his defection after getting wind of the plot to humiliate him by the Adams Oshiomhole-led APC.
The source said the national working committee of the party had finalised the plot to send Saraki out of its fold and openly embarrass him.
“Saraki announced his defection to avoid the sledgehammer dangling on his head. He got wind of the meeting and quickly announced his defection from the ruling party,” the source began.
“The party leadership had held a secret meeting and would have announced the expulsion of Saraki but the information leaked to him and he did what anyone would have done by announcing his defection in the nick of time.”
To buttress the fact that he knew was was in stock for him, Saraki, while announcing his defection, said he was forced out of the ruling party.
He added that there had been serious division in the APC and all his efforts to reconcile with the leadership of the party was frustrated by some forces within the party.
