Scores killed as twin blasts hit Kano GSM market
Scores were feared dead in Kano, Wednesday, from twin blasts at the heart of GSM market, Nassarawa GRA.
Eyewitness, Ali Isa told Vanguard that the Improvised Explosive Device was planted close to the generator serving the market, while the second bomb went off at the heart of the market The blast which went off during the late afternoon prayers triggered pandemonium within the vicinity. Read more
I acted in the best interest of Nigeria – Dasuki
Former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), has reacted to the accusations from the the presidency on siphoning billions of dollars earmarked for arms purchases and order of his arrest President Muhammdu Buhari.
Dasuki in a statement said that he acted in the best interest of Nigeria and that it is laughable for the panel to assume that 4 Alpha jets and 12 helicopters were not delivered. Read more

The World Bank on Wednesday described Edo State as the best in the country in terms of transparency, openness, candour and value for money.
The World Bank commended Governor Adams Oshiomhole for paying over N1billion counterpart fund, which it said qualified the state to enjoy its projects and other incentives. Read more

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday evening restated his commitment to protect the lives and property of the people of the State, just as he assured that security remains an important area of focus for his administration. Governor Ambode, who spoke in Lagos at a dinner organised in honour of outgoing and incoming members of the Board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) said there was a serious need for the private sector to scale up their support towards government’s effort to tackle insecurity. Man slaughters own 4 children after quarrel with wife
A middle aged man, on Wednesday in Kaduna slaughtered four of his children and attempted to kill himself after an alleged quarrel with his wife.
Neighbours said that the man had quarrelled with the wife throughout the night, forcing her to leave the house located on Ahmadu Bello street in Kawo area of Kaduna metropolis.
Thereafter, the man allegedly locked the entrance to the house and used a knife to slaughter the four children aged between six to one year. One of his children who was not in the house at the time, alerted the ward head of the area, when he found the door to the residence locked from inside on Wednesday afternoon. Read more
Highway sweeper knocked to death in Lagos
A highway sweeper under the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Wednesday lost her life when a vehicle knocked her off the Third Mainland Bridge to the ground.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who was at the scene of the accident reports that the sweeper was hit when the vehicle had a bust tyre. NAN reports that the accident occurred at about 11 a.m. behind Kam Salem House, the Police Headquarters annex at the Obalende. Read more

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in southeast Nigeria on Wednesday to demand the release of an activist who operated an illegal radio station calling for a separate state of Biafra.
The demonstration in Aba was the latest by separatist groups on an issue that has again exposed deep and longstanding ethnic fault lines in Africa’s most populous nation. A previous unilateral declaration of an independent Republic of Biafra in 1967 led to a brutal civil war that left more than one million dead in nearly three years of fighting. Read more
Court Remands Unemployed Man In Prison Custody For Allegedly Defiling Cousin
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 25-year-old unemployed man, Asimiu Adebayo, at the Kirirkiri Prisons, Apapa, Lagos for allegedly defiling his cousin.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Tajudeen Elias, remanded the accused in prison custody over the alleged rape of his 15-year-old cousin. Adebayo, who lives with the father of the victim at the Moricas Area of Agege, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement. Read more
Businessman in court over alleged N280,000 hotel bill
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 37-year-old businessman, Muhammed Kawu, in a Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, for criminal force and assault.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Gideon Ekomson, told the court that one Abraham Bassey of Sigma apartment, Wuse 2 reported the matter at the Maitama Police Station on Aug. 28. Ekomson said that Kawu, a resident of Katame, Abuja, lodged in the hotel, accumulated a bill of N280,000 and refused to pay. Read more
Biafra Radio: Drama in court as 2 lawyers battles over Kanu`s brief
A mild-drama ensue on Wednesday at Wuse Zone 2 Magistrates’ Court as two lawyers, Gabriel Egbule and Vincent Obetta, battle over who would represent ,Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra.
Kanu is standing trial on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, intimidation and belonging to unlawful society which he pleaded not guilty.
At the resumed hearing of the case, Egbule who represented the accused when he was arraigned announced appearance for Kanu. Read more

The Chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, was on Wednesday put on a hot sit by journalists who asked him to disclose his emolument.
But the NERC boss, who convened a press conference to clarify the alleged approval of N2.7billion to himself and his commissioners as severance package, said it would be irresponsible for a chief executive officer of an organization to disclose his emolument. Read more
Senate approves $200m World Bank loan for Lagos
The Senate on Wednesday, approved the $200 million loan request for the Lagos State government, following deliberation of the report of Ad-hoc Committee on Foreign and Local debt to which the request was referred a fortnight ago. Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC Kano South), in a motion for the consideration of the report, said: “That the Senate do consider the Report of Ad-Commiittee on Local and Foreign Debts for Special approval of Lagos State Development Policy Operation (DPO) loan budget support of US$200 Million from the World Bank.” Read more
Ebonyi NSCDC arrest 2 pipeline vandals
Ebonyi State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, on Wednesday, arrested two persons suspected to be pipeline vandals in the state. Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters in Abakaliki, the state commandant of the corps, Shuayb Jibril explained that the two suspects were arrested between 2am and 6:30am of the fateful day in Ivo LGA of the state. U.S. commends Giade’s oustanding leadership of NDLEA’s drug control efforts
The U.S. Consul General, Mr John Bray, has commended the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Ahmadu Giade, for providing 10 years of outstanding leadership to the agency.
A statement by the agency’s spokesperson, Mr Mitchel Ofoyeju, said on Wednesday in Lagos that the consul general made the commendation during a visit to the agency’s headquarters. The statement also said that Bray commended the management for engineering Nigeria’s rising international profile in anti-drug campaign. Read more
Kogi gov poll: Wada orders closure of schools
The Governor Idris Wada-led Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state from Tuesday, Nov. 18 to Monday, Nov. 23.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Alhaji Adamu Sheidu, confirmed the closure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lokoja. Read more

Putin, Sisi agree ‘close’ security service cooperation after jet bombing: Kremlin
Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday agreed “close cooperation” between their security services after Moscow said a bomb brought down its passenger jet over Sinai.
“In the context of the efforts to find the criminals involved in the terrorist act against the Russian airliner, close cooperation was agreed on between the security services of Russia and Egypt,” the Kremlin said in a statement after the leaders spoke by phone. Read more
Turkey kills ‘IS militant’ on Syria border, detains 21
Turkish security forces killed one suspected Islamic State (IS) militant seeking to cross into Turkey from Syria and arrested 21 others, the army said Wednesday.
The suspected IS militant killed on Tuesday was part of a group seeking to illegally cross the border neighbouring the Kilis region of southern Turkey, the army said in a statement. Read more

Sexual abuse of young boys on the rise in Pakistan: watchdog
The number of young boys being sexually abused in Pakistan has increased this year, a new watchdog report said Wednesday, with more boys between the ages of six and 10 victims than girls.
In total the number of boys being abused increased by 4.3 percent in the first half of 2015 compared to the same period last year, according to the study from Sahil, a non-government organisation (NGO) working against child sex abuse. Read more
ISIS Releases Photo of Bomb They Say Brought Down Russian Plane
The Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) has released a photo of the bomb it says was used to bring down a Russian passenger plane in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula last month, killing all 224 people on board.
The picture was published in the latest issue of the extremist group’s English-language magazine, with the caption “EXCLUSIVE – Image of the IED used to bring down the Russian airliner.” Read more

Bangladesh Upholds Death Penalty For Politicians Over War Crimes
Bangladesh’s Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld the death sentences of two senior opposition politicians convicted of crimes committed during the country’s 1971 war of independence with Pakistan.
Attorney General, Mahbubey Alam, said the judges rejected petitions by Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Salauddin Chowdhury and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan- Mohammad Mujahid. Read more
