The Senate on Wednesday confirmed former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and 15 others as ministers of the federal republic. Read more

Omotowa: Gas Flaring Reduced to 20%

The Managing Director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Mr. Babs Omotowa, has said that despite the best efforts, the problem of gas flaring in beyond what they can handle alone.

Omotowa stated this Wednnesday when the Management of LNG paid a courtesy to the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, at Naval Headquarters (NHQ), Abuja.

He however disclosed that their efforts have reduced gas flaring significantly down from 65 per cent to 20 per cent. Read more

Senate Defers Screening Of Rotimi Amaechi To Thursday

The Senate on Wednesday deferred the screening of minister-nominee Rotimi Amaechi to Thursday.

The development followed the inability of its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to submit its report on the petition against him.

The Chairman of the Committee Sen. Sam Anyanwu, while briefing the senate, said that the committee could not meet on Tuesday following the late adjournment of plenary. Read more

Ministerial Nominees: Buhari Drops Ibeto

P resident Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn the name of immediate past Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ahmed Musa Ibeto from the list of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate.

It was learned that the President sent a letter to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki on the removal.

Ahmed Musa Ibeto (Santurakin Kontagora) was born January 15, 1959 at Ibeto headquarters, Ibelu District, Kontagora Emirate in Niger State. Read more


Edo Police, hunters rescue three kidnap victims

Three passengers who were abducted on Monday by suspected kidnappers along the Benin-Lagos express road have been rescued.

They were rescued on Tuesday night by a combined team of Edo State Police Command and local hunters. The three passengers comprising two males and a female looked traumatized and exhausted when they were presented before newsmen. Read more

Nigeria’s refineries lose N48.92bn in first 8 months of 2015

Figures presented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in its Monthly Financial and Operations Report for August have revealed that Nigeria’s refineries recorded heavy losses in its operations for the first eight months of the year (January to August 2015), Daily Independent reports.

Specifically, the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited, Port Harcourt Refining Company and Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company posted a combined loss of N48.92bn. The losses resulted from combined expenses of N49,453bn. The Corporation realised a N535 million revenue in the period under review, leaving a deficit of N48.92 bn. Read more

Forty eight ships laden with foods and petroleum products are expected to arrive Lagos ports from Oct. 14 to Nov.1.

Rivers Govt To Tackle Flood, Garbage Throwers Risk Arrest

The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) said it has commenced the De-silting of major creeks and canals in the city of Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor Local Government Areas and their environs to forestall a possibility of being caught in the predicted impending flooding of coastal areas in the country.

Accordingly, residents and people engaged in the habit of throwing refuse into the canals and creeks had been told that the relevant sanitation laws would catch up with them if caught in the act. The Sole Administrator of the Agency, Prince Felix Obuah, disclosed this while inspecting ongoing works at Ntanwogba Creek, Mini Nwondugba, Mini Aziri, Mini Ngwolu and Mini Ekere canals. Read more

FG to revamp NNPC JVs into incorporated joint venture firms

President Muhammadu Buhari has taken his first steps towards overhauling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by giving its exploration joint ventures control over their own budgets as a way to overcome chronic cash shortages, Reuters reports.

To speed up an often cumbersome decision making process at NNPC caused by its need for parliamentary and regulatory approval before it can spend anything, Buhari has given the green light to revamping several joint ventures involving its poorly managed production and exploration arm, according to a letter by NNPC Group Managing Director Emmanuel Kachikwu, signed by Buhari. House to Probe Contracts for Railway Rehabilitation, Others

The House of Representatives at plenary on Wednesday passed resolutions to open investigations into award of contracts for the rehabilitation of railways between 2010 and 2014, the construction works and lack of facilities at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and allegations of fraud in the sale of power assets by the Bureau for Public Enterprises.

Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi (Delta PDP) in a motion titled “Need to Investigate the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) on the Award of Contracts for Rehabilitation of Railway Tracks, Maintenance of Bridges and Procurement/Rehabilitation of Coaches and Locomotives from 2010-2014” alleged that the over N18 billion expended so far to upgrade the railway system is not justified as the locomotives that ply the tracks are old models. What is the NNPC going to do about the joint venture contracts, some of which have been taken away from the NPDC?

They are under review. People signed contracts, and what I have tried to do is to review those contracts and get the best value yield. When you enter into an operatorship agreement for a certain number of years and people go ahead and make some investments, sometimes we presume that you just cancel it and walk away like that. It has some financial implications. What I am doing is to review each of those contracts, get the best value we can from them. We are now migrating from sole operatorship of third parties to joint operatorship between them and NPDC (National Petroleum Development Company). Read more

Alhaji Mohammed Mahe, the Chief Imam of the Bwari Central Mosque, has enjoined Muslim faithful to pray for the peace and the prosperity of the country in the new Islamic Year.

Plateau Assembly probes N10bn loan

The Plateau House of Assembly is investigating the N10 billion loan facility being sought by State Government, reports the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

This is sequel to the invitation of the state’s Accountant-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, to shed more light on the request for the facility. No contact from Swiss investigators over 2022 World Cup: Qatar

Qatar’s World Cup football bosses have not been contacted by Swiss investigators examining corruption claims over the bidding process for the 2022 tournament, a senior official said Wednesday.

Nasser al-Khater, the assistant general secretary of Qatar’s 2022 organising committee, replied “no” when asked if the Swiss Office of the Attorney General had been in touch during their now almost five months-long investigation. Read more
