Shehu Sani Remains Kaduna Central Senatorial Candidate, APC Insists
The National body of the All Progressives Congress has said that Senator Shehu Sani remains its only senatorial candidate from Kaduna Central. The body added that Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, cannot dictate to the party. The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Yekini Nabena, gave the clarification in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Sunday. He said Sani was the only senatorial candidate from the zone that was duly recognised by the national body.
Atiku Pays Tribute to Obasanjo In Acceptance Speech
The opposition party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has put the past behind and paid tribute to the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo. Abubakar was Obasanjo running mate in 1999 under the platform of PDP, and both went on to rule Nigeria until 2007. Although they started on a good note for Nigeria’s democracy, working together to dismantle the statist political economy imposed by successive military administrations for more liberal economic policies.

Enugu West All Progressives Congress senatorial candidate, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, says President Muhammadu Buhari’s affirmation at the party convention in Abuja indicates that love and peace reign in the party. Ibekaku-Nwagwu, the Special Adviser to the President on Justice Reform and Open Government Partnership, stated this when she addressed newsmen after attending Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka’s Adoration Ground prayers in Enugu on Sunday. She expressed optimism that with the affirmation, Buhari would win the 2019 presidential election, promising that she would place Buhari’s election before God and seek mercy and favour on his behalf.
2019: Apc Urges Political Parties to Ensure Issue-Based Campaign
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on political parties in the country, particularly the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its agents, to stick to issue-based actions and campaigns as the nation enters into electioneering campaign. Mr Yekini Nabena, the APC acting National Publicity Secretary, made the call in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. The statement was in reaction to recent attempt by the PDP leadership to forcibly enter the Nigeria Police Headquarters under the guise of a protest. The APC spokesman condemned the act and described it as irresponsible, shameful and reckless actions. He recalled that the protest was led by the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, PDP State Governors, and its ranking federal lawmakers.
PDP Convention: Most South-East Delegates Voted Atiku –Sources
Investigations by our correspondents revealed that the votes of the South-East delegates mostly went to Atiku Abubakar. It was learnt that nearly all delegates from Ebonyi State voted for the former vice-president. Abubakar and Tambuwal shared the votes of Enugu State delegates, it was gathered. However, Atiku beat Tambuwal in the allocation of the votes of delegates from Imo, Abia and Anambra states, according to sources among the South-East contingent to the convention.

Former Nigeria’s vice president Atiku Abubakar has been elected as the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the next general elections. The former vice president wins the election with 1, 532 votes with the governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, coming a distant second with 693 votes. The ever vocal Nigerians on Twitter have reacted to Atiku’s win as the opposition party flagbearer.

Wife of Nigeria’s president Aisha Buhari has criticised the country’s ruling party for removing some aspirants’ names from the lists of persons to contest election primaries. Mrs Buhari said the party primaries were against the tenets of the party such that it would not be difficult to dissociate her from the process. “Given this development one will not hesitate than dissociate from such unfairness, be neutral, and speak for the voiceless,” Buhari said on Sunday.

Makoda (Kano State) Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, has pledged to support immunization of child killer diseases in Makoda local government area of Kano state. The Chairman of the association in Makoda, Malam Yahya Madawaki, made the pledge in an interview on Sunday in Makoda town. He said that the association had facitated the immunization of many nomadic children who came into the local government area from neighbouring states and countries.
Jos Crisis: Naf Deploys Helicopter, Isr Aircraft, Personnel in Plateau
The Nigerian Air Force headquarters said it has deployed an EC-135 helicopter and an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft in Jos, the Plateau State capital, to curb the crisis that erupted the state during the week. NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who made this known, said the service also deployed an additional detachment of personnel in the state to restore normalcy.

Nigerian referees are not part of an induction course for African referees ahead of the introduction of the Video Assistant Referees to be organised by the continental soccer ruling body CAF. The Top Referees with six Assistant Referees; but none from Nigeria, will embark on a preparatory course scheduled to hold between 24-29 this month. VAR was approved for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup finals last month by the continental body’s Executive Committee; after it ruled the testing during the CAF Super Cup in February got top ratings.

Pompeo Hails ‘Progress’ After Talks with Kim Jong Un In Pyongyang
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hailed “progress” in talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang Sunday before landing in Seoul on a whirlwind diplomatic visit to the region. The top US diplomat met with Kim for around two hours Sunday morning in the North’s capital, where denuclearisation and a second US-North Korean summit were expected to be high on the agenda, before the pair shared a lunch together. “Had a good trip to Pyongyang to meet with Chairman Kim,” Pompeo tweeted. “We continue to make progress on agreements made at Singapore Summit. Thanks for hosting me and my team.”
