Suicide: Man Jumps Into Lagos Lagoon

A man identified as Nurudeen, has reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Lagos Lagoon off the Third Mainland Bridge this morning at 8 am on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
According to an eyewitness who reported the sad incident on Twitter, the man was seen taking a dive into the ocean as passerby made their way to their offices and even though some fishermen around tried to rescue him and revive him, he did not survive.

The victim reportedly dropped his identification card and his mobile phone behind before taking the jump and that was how his identity was known. A check through his phone also showed that he had called his wife shortly before jumping into the lagoon.
The Twitter user with the handle Precious #AFC @preshieG, first posted this:
“A man just jumped from 3rd Mainland Bridge this morning… may God protect us…”
She went further to make other posts:
“The brought him out, they tried to revive him but he did not survive. His first name was Nurudeen, he dropped his ID, left his phone open, he called his wife before jumped…”

This is not the first time some depressed Nigerians have jumped into the Lagoon to kill themselves. Two years ago, a young medical doctor who had been suffering from depression for a long time committed suicide by jumping to the same lagoon while a businesswoman was lucky as she was rescued while taking the same route.

She was later prosecuted in a court where she said she decided to end her life after she was duped of millions of Naira by some fraudulent business partners.
