T. B. Joshua’s The Synagogue Church Of All Nations has rejected a coroner’s finding that the fatal building collapse of September, 2014 that killed 116 people was caused by negligence.
“The Synagogue Church Of All Nations rejects the verdict of the coroner on the grounds that it is unreasonable, one-sided and biased,” Olalekan Ojo, legal counsel to the church, said in a post on the Facebook page of T.B. Joshua Ministries. “The church maintains its stand that the incident was as a result of sabotage.”
Joshua’s church should face sanctions as provided by the law for building without required permits, while the structural engineer who oversaw the construction should be tried for criminal negligence, Lagos state Coroner Oyetade Komolafe said in his ruling on Wednesday in Nigeria’s commercial capital. Komolafe’s decision was based on the testimonies of 32 witnesses, the study of 45 exhibits and the findings of a technical report commissioned by the court. Read more
