An over-enthusiastic Bird Box fan has crashed her car while doing the bird box challenge that went viral after the movie was released. In January, Netflix had warned the public to ‘PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE?’
One 17 years old in Utah decided to not only blindfold herself but to also turn a deaf ear to the warnings. She took a whirl while driving and the result is as expected – she crashed.
Bird Box Challenge while driving…predictable result. This happened on Monday as a result of the driver covering her eyes while driving on Layton Parkway. Luckily no injuries. pic.twitter.com/4DvYzrmDA2— Layton Police (@laytonpolice) January 11, 2019
Netflix released a horror concept movie in December called Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock. In Bird Box, Bullock and her children, Boy, and Girl, are forced to wear blindfolds and navigate a river and spooky forest to protect themselves against the evil monster that, if seen, causes people to kill themselves.
The horror flick not only broke viewership records, it inspired a bevy of #BirdBoxChallenge memes, including ones in which folks record themselves blindfolded and attempting to do complete tasks, many of which are depicted in the movie.
In this case, there were no injuries. The only casualty was the car. While there may likely be more of these Birdbox challenges, common sense should prevail over sensationalism. What happens in the movies, should stay in the movies.
