Those Who Feel They Have Another Country Free To Go —Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said Nigerians who felt that they have another country outside Nigeria may choose to go. He said he and others who do not have another country would rather stay back and salvage it together. According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President spoke while receiving All Progressives Congress governorship aspirants and members of the party from the three senatorial zones of Kwara State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
DSS Denies Facilitating Kanu’s Escape from Nigeria
The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied report insinuating some of his personnel aided the self-acclaimed leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to escape from Nigeria, when operatives of security agencies, including the army invaded his family home in Umuahia, Abia State last year. The whereabouts of Kanu had been a mystery since the September 14, 2017 military invasion, forcing his lawyer and sureties who guaranteed his bail to trade blame over his whereabouts even as some claimed he must have been killed during the attack. However, following the sudden reappearance of Kanu in Israel, questions have been raised as to how he was able to escape from Nigeria, with report fingering some operatives of the DSS.
Buhari Orders APC to Capture Kwara
President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Abuja, ordered the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to dislodge the Saraki dynasty and win Kwara State in 2019. The president gave the instruction during a closed-door meeting with members of the Kwara State chapter of APC at the State House. Making the disclosure while answering questions from journalists after the meeting, the APC governorship candidate in Kwara State, Abdulraman Abdulrazaq, said the era of the dominance of Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara politics was over.
Fayemi Approves Permanent Secretary’s Retirement
Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has approved the immediate retirement of the Permanent Secretary, Office of Establishments and Training, Olusesan Alabi. A statement conveying the governor’s approval of Alabi’s retirement was signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode. The governor ordered Alabi to hand over to the most senior officer in the office. No reason was given for his retirement in the statement. He was among the permanent secretaries appointed by Fayemi in 2013 during his first tenure of office.
Amosun Accuses Oshiomhole, Tinubu, Osoba Of Foisting Dapo Abiodun On Ogun
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, accused the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole of allegedly conniving with some people to foist Dapo Abiodun on the party in the state, as its governorship candidate in the 2019 election. Amosun alleged that Oshiomhole with the support of two former governors of Lagos and Ogun States, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Aremo Olusegun Osoba, wrote a fake result showing Abiodun as the winner of the party’s primary election and thus its governorship candidate. He had alleged that the duo of Tinubu and Osoba had played roles in what he termed ‘electoral fraud’, adding that their silence over the matter smacked of complicity.

Nigeria’s vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday said whenever he wants to sack a public official found to be corrupt, calls from religious and political leaders reach him not to do so. Despite this claim by the Nigerian vice-president, it will be recalled that he has been involved in the dismisaal of some government officials alleged to be found corrupt. While president Buhari was on annual leave, Osinbajo sacked former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS) Lawal Daura.
Umahi, Southeast Leaders Never Disagreed With My Nomination -Peter Obi
The former governor of Anambra State and the Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Peter Obi on Monday confirmed that Igbo leaders as well as governor’s of the zone never disagreed on his nomination as VP candidate but disagreed with the process. Peter Obi who visited Governor David Umahi in the Government House Abakalikii said he was in the state to intimate them about his nomination as the Vice Presidential candidate of PDP in the forth coming general election and to solicit their support. Obi said he also came to solicit the support of the Governor of Ebonyi State towards the coming election and commended the governor for his developmental strides since he assumed office.
Alleged N400m Fraud : EFCC Alleges Plot To Scuttle Metuh’s Trial
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, alleged attempt to scuttle the ongoing trial of former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh. The agency made the allegation on a day it persuaded the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court to reject an application that sought the postponement of further hearing on the criminal proceeding it initiated against Metuh, till November 29.
Nigeria Is 7th Largest Integrated Market In The World – US Ambassador
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr William Symington, says that Nigeria is the seventh largest integrated market in the world, with more endowments than most countries. Symington made the remark on Monday in Ilorin while delivering the Convocation Lecture at the 34th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Ilorin. The Lecture was entitled: “Citizen Leadership and the Link between Economic Diversity and Economic Good Governance”.
SARS Reforms Panel To Hear 27 Complaints, Begins Sitting
The Presidential Panel on the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) Reforms for the North Central Zone has received 27 complaints and will hold public sitting on the complaints from Oct. 22 to Oct. 25. The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr Tony Ojukwu, said this on Monday in Abuja in his welcome remarks at the commencement of the panel’s public sitting. According to Ojukwu, the essence is “to increase access to the services of the commission. “And to seek accountability where there is evidence to indicate that officers or officials of SARS have been involved in acts amounting to human rights violation in the course of carrying out their law enforcement duties.
Naira Loses Marginally Against Dollar At Parallel Market
The Naira on Monday lost 50 kobo to close at N360.5 to the dollar, weaker than N360 posted on Friday at the parallel market in Lagos. The Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N480 and N417, respectively. At the Bureau De Change (BDC) window, the Naira was sold at N360 to the dollar, while the Pound Sterling and the Euro closed at N480 and N417, respectively. Trading at the investors’ window saw the Naira closed at N364. 09, while the market turnover stood at 168.96 million dollars.
Despite Curfew, Gunmen Kill 3 in Kaduna
Three people were killed on Monday in Kaduna despite the 24-hour curfew imposed on the metropolis by the state government. Violence broke out in some parts of the metropolis at about 4:00pm on Sunday resulting in the burning of several houses and vehicles. The state government consequently imposed curfew to stop the violence from spreading to other parts of the city. However, in the early hours of Monday, gunmen said to have posed as members of a vigilante group killed three young men in Narayi area of the city.

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa on Monday said that the state was poised to host the 2018 Aiteo FA Cup finals. Speaking after an inspection tour of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, Governor Okowa said that the fine tuning of the facilities at the stadium was completed and ready for the FA finals. “I think the facilities are set for the 2018 Aiteo FA cup finals. The pitch is ready and the floodlights are completed and fine-tuned. Everything is ready. I have seen the dressing rooms, the medical zone, the media zone and the pitch. I can tell you, we are ready for the finals”, he said.
