Throwback Thursday: Wizkid

Our throwback celebrity for this week is the king of the stew association, Wizkid, the Afro pop and music superstar whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun.

Wizkid came into the limelight in 2010 with the release of his massive hit single ‘holla at your boy” which gained immediate success and the 28-years-old singer has since not looked back. He has won numerous awards and attained mainstream success.

Prior to becoming famous, Wizkid was born in Surulere, a middle-class suburb in Lagos state. He was influenced primarily by the great Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, in his development years he was mentored directly by Banky W.

In mid-2009, Wizkid attended Lagos State University (LASU) but he transferred to Lead City University where he eventually dropped out to focus wholly on his music career. In 2011, he released his debut studio album titled Superstar which shot the singer into nationwide then, when he released Ayo in 2014 he had already collaborated with international superstars such as Chris Brown.

On his third studio album titled Sounds from the otherside, he worked with Drake on the single “come closer” and Chris Brown on the hit track “African bad girl.” His featured big stars such as Trey Songz, Ty Dolla $, Major LAzer, Efya and Buice. He is currently one of the richest superstars in the world and he is renowned both home and abroad.

Forget about the Wizkid you used to know, this man is now a father of three children, a brand ambassador and the CEO of record label known as Star Boy Entertainment.
