Top Five Reasons Why Prostitution Will Never Stop

Prostitution is a profession that is as old as the history of the world itself and a lot of people venture into it for different reasons which will be outlined but a definition is very important before delving into an analysis.

According to Wikipedia, prostitution is the business or practice of engaging in sexual activity in exchange for payment. Prostitution is sometimes described as sexual services, commercial sex or, colloquially, hooking.

A person who works in this field is called a prostitute and is a type of sex worker which may also include pornography actors and strippers.

Here are the five reasons why people venture into prostitution:

  1. Poverty/Financial Security

Majority of people in the world are living below the poverty line with little or no access to bettering their situation ergo, some are tempted into selling their bodies for pecuniary reasons.

Others see it as a way to pay for university education and further advancement. Most state that they intend to leave the business once they have earned the amount they want or need.

  1. Sex Slavery/Trafficking

The sex industry is a multi-billion one albeit illegal which is why unscrupulous elements take advantage of disadvantaged people such as refugees.

Some of them are kidnapped and sold into slavery. Girls as young as ten years of age are snatched from their countries and sold into prostitution far away from their native homes.

Left without any choice, such people often have to prostitute themselves for a period of time before regaining their freedom.

  1. Childhood Sexual Abuse/Trauma

Again, it’s important to avoid generalizing about how women get into prostitution.

Studies show that large numbers of prostitutes were sexually abused during their childhood. It is the fact of the sexual abuse, more than anything else, that seems to underlay how and why some of them become prostitutes.

These are the people most likely to be addicted to drugs as well as to develop, or already have, serious health problems, not the least of which is HIV as well as other STDs.

  1. Medical Conditions

Some people suffer from a medical condition called nymphomania exhibiting unusual or excessive concern with or indulgence in sexual activity.

This condition may be as a result of the outset of a medical condition or the bye-effect of a childhood trauma.

Most of the people with this condition can’t help themselves and some resort to the only way of satiating their urges which is what prostitution offers.

  1. Greed/Lack Of Contentment/The Thrill

Despite the fact some are born into wealth and have never lacked in their life, they just want more money whilst also engaging in it just for the thrill of it.

This is part of the reasons why one sees children from wealthy homes engaging in the act.
