TWITTER TO DROP 140-CHARACTER LIMIT

For the second time in November, 2014, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has spoken about about the possibility of relaxing the 140-character limit on the social media platform. In a interview which was reportedly ‘off-the-record’ at Costolo’s insistence, he said ‘Yes’ in reply to a question about if Twitter was thinking about altering the character length on its platform.

Continuing, the Twitter CEO said he liked the limits as they promoted creativity.  But, he also felt that they needed to break out of those constraints, as they could get to a point where they acted as ‘shackles’ and limited creativity.  In short, Twitter was considering a change to their character limit.

The interview took place at Ross School of Business, University of Michigan at a fraternity event on November 21, 2014.

According to reports,  he made the same comments about it at the Twitter Inc Analyst Day on November 14, 2014.
