Ugandans head back to the polls today to vote officials to represent their local areas across the country. Ugandans will vote to elect a Lord Mayor specifically for Kampala, District L.C 5 Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councilors and Women Councilors across the country.
These elections have been overshadowed by the intensity that characterized the Presidential Elections last week. With lessons learned from the February 18 polls, police has called for caution and restraint while the Electoral Commission has promised there will be no delays.
“While we apologise for the hitches, we want to assure Ugandans that we have learnt lessons and this time we have done everything possible and are confident that voting will go on as planned,” said EC secretary Sam Rwakoojo.
“We re-affirm that the remaining part of the Election process will be peaceful and calm as enshrined in the Constitution Cap 3 (V) The State shall provide a peaceful, secure and stable political environment which is necessary for economic development,” said Police Deputy PRO Polly Namaye. Read more
