Vincent Kompany’s Father Becomes First Black Mayor in Belgium

Belgium and Manchester city football club skipper Vincent Kompany’s recently became the first black mayor after he emerged victorious in his local community.

Pierre Kompany was born in Democratic Republic of Congo, a Belgian colony during the colonial era. Pierre is a mechanical Engineer who migrated to the European country in 1975 as a refugee and quickly became one of the most influential black people in the Brussels municipal.

Vincent and his younger brother would go on Instagram to celebrate the new achievement their father attained recently.

He posted:

“History! We are so proud of you dad. Came over from the DR Congo, as a refugee, in 1975. Now gained the trust of your local community becoming the first ever black elected mayor in Belgium! It was long over due but it’s progress. Massive congrats! #Belgium #Brussels #Ganshoren ‬✊🏾”
