The sequel to the highest grossing Nollywood movie ever has arrived on the wings of humour and much more as those attending the sold-out December 10 premiere of ‘The Wedding Party 2’at Eko Hotel and Suites will discover.
The flick directed by a clearly excited Niyi Akinmolayan, screened to the media on December 6 at Filmhouse Cinemas in Lekki. Akinmolayan told the audience that perhaps the biggest question on his mind when he got on the project was “how to make a good thing better”.
The whole world cannot wait to find out whether or not he succeeded in doing that. But we can tell you that taking a detour from the first offering, the sequel focuses on an accidental proposal by Nonso Onwuka (Enyinna Nwigwe) to Deardre Winston (Daniella Down), characters those who saw the first film will recall.
Also returning for the sequel are Banky W and his now real-life wife, Adesua (Dozie and Dunni), Ali Baba and Sola Sobowale (Bam-Bam and Tin-Tin Coker), Richard Mofe-Damijo and Ireti Doyle (The Onwukas). Then there is the feisty new addition to the cast, Patience Ozokwor as Adanna.
It is a production of the ELFIKE Film Collective, a partnership between EbonyLife Films, FilmOne Distribution, Inkblot Productions and Koga Studios.
The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai, will open in cinemas across the country and Africa on December 15. The film will also be released in key markets such as the UK, USA, Canada, Middle East, East Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa and francophone African countries.
Moses Babatope, COO, FilmOne Distribution, said they are looking forward to similarly successful press screenings in the countries where the film’s release is planned.
