A Senior Special Assistant to the President on Judiciary Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, has given reasons a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, may not be released despite the bail granted him. According to her, Nigeria must spare nothing in the fight against corruption. She said that those calling for the release of Dasuki should consider the fact that many innocent Nigerians died just because the former NSA shared the money meant to fight insurgency to politicians. Ibekaku-Nwagwu spoke with the Sun newspaper, saying, “I wish you could tell me a couple of judgments that the government disobeyed apart from the Dansuki’s case, which is really based on national security interest. Obasanjo vows to “still sacrifice” for Nigeria again (DailyTrust)

Former  president Olusegun Obasanjo has declared he is ready to again sacrifice himself for the country’s growth, development, peace and unity. He restated that the situation in country presently should not be accepted by “any right thinking” Nigerian. Obasanjo spoke when People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant Attahiru Bafarawa led a 20-man delegation to seek his blessings for his presidential aspiration in Abeokuta. Obasanjo said if he could stand during the civil war for Nigeria’s unity, “I will still sacrifice again for Nigeria to have a better country.” Obasanjo told Bafarawa, “You are qualified to lead the country in the quest to have the desired change. The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, will be impeached when the National Assembly resumes from its recess in September, Senator Muhammad Ali Ndume said yesterday. Ndume, who represents Southern Borno Senatorial Zone at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, dropped the hint to newsmen in Maiduguri. But Senators Isa Hamma Misau (Bauchi) and Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara) said the Senate President will keep his seat despite leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Kano Deputy Governor Resigns (Independent)

Hafiz Abubakar, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, on Sunday tendered his resignation amidst crisis with the state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje. Speculations were rife last week that Mr Abubakar had defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP. In the resignation letter dated August 5, 2018  obtained by Daily Independent, the Deputy Governor said he had desired to remain in office until the end of their tenure, but chose to resign due to irreconcilable differences with the governor. The Presidency on Sunday appealed to the National Assembly (NASS) to reconvene as urgent matters pending before it may affect the running of Nigeria and matters affecting Nigerians. The Management of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Sunday said its Group Managing Director, Dr Maikanti Baru, was not funding any plot to impeach the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki. Ozubulu killings: Community holds memorial mass for 13 slain worshippers on Monday (SUN)

The Ozubulu community in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra will hold a memorial mass in honour of 13 slain worshippers at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu, on Monday. Mr Peter Uzokwe, the President-General of Ozubulu Development Union (ODU),  announced the detail in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ozubulu on Sunday. NAN recalls that the deceased persons were shot by some assailants, who invaded the church on Aug. 6, 2017 during an early morning mass. Tanker crushes 4 to death in Rivers (SUN)

A tanker, heading to Eleme Refinery, reportedly crushed four persons to death along Rumuapara community of East-West road in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Sunday Sun gathered that the incident occurred, on Saturday, at about 3:40pm. It was gathered that the victims were in a bar when the vehicle rammed into the place and killed them on the spot. An eyewitness revealed that the driver of the tanker, who was possibly heading to the refinery to load a product, lost control of the vehicle when its break ceased to work. Read more

Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina, is poised to join English Championship club, Derby County on loan from Chelsea despite interest from West Brom.
