Why Nigerian Activist Ken Saro-Wiwa Was Executed
Harry Saro-Wiwa sits beside his brother’s grave. A washed-out, torn flag flutters from a wooden pole. Harry says his brother gave his life for the wellbeing of the Ogoni people and never looked after his own interests. Just as he starts opening up, some young people appear and loudly interrupt the interview.
Some are in their underwear and they smell of alcohol. Harry explains to them that he is talking about his brother, who is buried there. But the young people shrug him off: “Ken is a hero to the Ogoni – this is not just about your family, it is about all the Ogoni,” they say. Though it soon becomes clear that what they really want is money, allegedly for guarding the grave. Read more
Diplomats’ vehicle in auto crash in Abuja, 4 injured
Four diplomatic corps officers from the Ethiopian Embassy were on Monday involved in an accident on Independence Avenue in the Central Business District in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
The accident which occurred at about 2p.m. left the occupants of the diplomatic hilux vehicle with registration number 43 CD 01 corps diplomatique, badly injured. An eye witness, who pleaded anonymity, told NAN that the vehicle hit a billboard and somersaulted when the driver could not control the vehicle. Read more

Nigerian politicians especially those in the corridors of powers have been blamed for the continued thriving of oil theft in the country especially in the oil and gas producing region.
Venting his spleen on the continued sharp practice which has led to the downfall in overall capacity of oil production per day, Dr. Sofiri Peterside of the University of Port Harcourt made this known in an address at the 8th Annual National Environmental Congress, organised by the Environmental Rights Action/Friends of The Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN). Delta Gas City Project Must Be Achieved – Okowa
Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has assured that with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) backing, the Gas City Project would see the light of the day.

Fayose Warns Traders Against Loitering In Demolished Oja Oba Market
Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has warned traders at the just demolished Oja Oba Market in Ado-Ekiti against loitering saying anyone caught would pay N10million .
The governor urged them not to test the will of the government by going contrary to the directive assuring that the new market would soon be completed for use.

Refineries Grounded, Hit Zero Output
The nation’s refineries combined output has been completely grounded at zero, as the PortHarcourt refinery, which holds forth for the four refining assets also shut down. The Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who disclosed this at the Luncheon of the Petroleum Club in Lagos yesterday, said the the Port Harcourt refinery has been shut down currently, bringing the combined output from 1.9 per cent in the last few weeks to zero output. Former National Security Adviser, NSA, under President Goodluck Jonathan, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), yesterday, dragged the Federal Government before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, insisting that his life is in danger.

Court orders Police Affairs Ministry to regularise teachers salaries
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, has ordered the Ministry of Police Affairs to regularise the salaries of teachers in Police primary and secondary schools nationwide.

Tear gas used to quell Australia migrant centre unrest
Australian police used tear gas to put down a two-day riot at a migrant detention centre Tuesday, where detainees, reportedly armed with machetes, chainsaws and petrol bombs, were running amok.
