Nine Fifa officials and five executives have been indicted on charges of racketeering, conspiracy and corruption in the US. This comes after a period of investigation by the United States. US authorities suspect the Fifa officials arrested of taking part in a 24-year scheme to enrich themselves through the corruption of international football.
But that’s not Fifa’s only headache – the Swiss authorities have launched a separate investigation into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Fifa insists it is fully cooperating, but now all eyes will be on Sepp Blatter because this has huge implications for the credibility of the organisation he leads. Read more
