While several musicians are going commercial, Nigerian rapper Yung6ix real name Onome Onokohwomo has decided to claim that he is only rapper in the music industry that still raps.

The rap music sphere in Nigeria harbored prominent artistes such as Mode Nine, El dee, Ruggedman, indigenous rappers Lord of Ajasa and Mr Raw, to name a few from the early 2000’s era, the likes of M.I, Olamide, Phyno, Ice Prince, Jesse Jagz became renowned in the mid-2010’s and they took the rap game to an entirely new level courtesy of the interesting vibes and accessible lyrics.
Fast forward to the late 2010’s and the rap sector has transformed, many of the original rappers in the music industry no longer garner the attention of the audience the way they used to, while the most rappers from the mid-2010’s have delved into other musical genres so that they can be marketable and be appealing to the mainstream audience.
Nonetheless, Yung6ix remained persistent in the rap genre and a fan complimented him by giving a positive feedback, see the tweet below:
“Best believe no rapper in naija has put in more wrk than @yung6ix in the last seven years.. the guy deserve a lot of credit. he is the most complete rapper in terms of lyrics, metaphors, wordplay, delivery, punchlines!Yung 6 is naija’s carter. GOAT.”
Yung6ix keeps working hard, although he hasn’t seem to earn the credit he deserved but his fans to appreciate his effort. He said the following:
“it’s a fact” that there is no rap artiste like him in Nigeria.
“I am the only rapper in the country right now,” he said during a show on Hip TV.
“I can’t see anybody doing modern day rap music apart from myself. It’s just the truth. It’s just the fact. They don’t do it like I do it.”
Other rappers Vector and Reminisce have tried overtime to remain relevant in that category and it is believed that someday they’ll get the credit they really deserve. Although Yung6ix claims to be the only star still rapping, it is simply an opinion not necessarily a fact. He was influenced primarily by 50 cent, Lil Wayne, Jay Z and Kanye West.
